Elopements are all about intimacy, adventure, and doing things your own way, and Charity and Micah’s December 14th elopement in Western North Carolina was the perfect blend of all three. With a handful of loved ones and their sweet elderly pup by their side, they hiked up a scenic bald, braving the winter wind to say their vows.
We met at the parking area at 11:30 AM, the crisp mountain air already setting the stage for an unforgettable day. The hike itself was fairly easy, and the company made it even better—casual conversations, shared excitement, and the occasional happy bark from their four-legged companion. The anticipation built with every step as we climbed toward the open, sweeping views waiting at the top.
Once we reached the bald, we found the perfect spot for Charity and Micah to exchange their vows. The wind, however, had its own plans. It howled through the open landscape, making it nearly impossible to hear the officiant. Charity’s hair danced wildly around her face, and yet, none of it seemed to faze them. They held hands, eyes locked, grinning through every gust of wind. This was their moment, and nothing—not even the mountain’s untamed energy—could take away from the joy they radiated.
After the ceremony, their friends and family began the hike back down, giving Charity and Micah a few quiet moments to soak it all in. We explored the mountaintop together, capturing their love against the dramatic backdrop of rolling hills and endless sky. They embraced, laughed, and leaned into the adventure—fully present, fully in love.
Once we made our way back down to the cars, I mentioned a nearby pond with a picturesque dock. Without hesitation, we took a short drive to the spot, where we wrapped up the day with a few last portraits. The stillness of the water, the rustic charm of the dock, and the way these two looked at each other—it was the perfect closing chapter to their day.
As they headed off to celebrate with a cozy mini-reception at their cabin, I started my 2.5-hour drive home, still grinning from the adventure we had just shared. Charity and Micah’s elopement was a reminder that the best moments happen when you embrace the elements, laugh through the unexpected, and focus on what truly matters—love, connection, and a little bit of wildness.
